I am a 35 year old father of two who lives in Israel, works full time as a QA Technician and I run a digital services business on the side.
I have always had a thing for history and have been an avid reader of fiction for most of my life, hence my current predilection for writing in historical fiction in addition to fantasy.
As far as inspiration goes, my reading tastes are a lot more diverse than my writing genres. Throughout the years I picked up anything I considered readable – from the macabre to the humorous – and devoured it. I think that the first actual novel which I read was “A Wizard of Earthsea” by Ursula K. Le Guin. I remember my sister recommending it to me when I was around ten years old and I after that, I was hooked.
I have read through almost everything Tolkien related – having covered the more depressing stories when I was cramped up in a cabin at sea (June – December 2008). Not to outdo my sterling ability to choose the right books at the wrong time – I finished a couple of Ian McEwan Novels during my national service as well as some depressing American classics.
It would be a waste of time to carry on describing my reading list- so I will have to sum it up by saying that I prefer books which are “character orientated.” I enjoy a story where the character is real – one wherein the faults and flaws of the protagonist shine through as a consequence of the various plot twists and tribulations.
And lastly, I place an emphasis on empathy with regard to the beings who I bring to life in between the pages. I believe that the more one has experienced in life, the better equipped one is to write insightful prose.
